Who Is a Good Candidate — And Who Isn't

This guide covers the basics of eligibility, contraindications, and important safety considerations. Your provider makes the final determination — but understanding the landscape helps.

General Candidate Profile

These characteristics indicate someone who may be a good fit for GLP-1 weight loss programs. Final determination is made by providers after medical review.

BMI ≥ 30

Primary eligibility for GLP-1 weight loss programs

BMI ≥ 27 with a weight-related condition

e.g., high blood pressure, Type 2 diabetes, sleep apnea

Adults 18+

Age is a hard minimum — parental or guardian oversight required under 18

Non-pregnant & non-breastfeeding

Must be confirmed during intake

No absolute contraindications

Verified through the medical intake questionnaire

Motivated to follow a supervised program

Regular check-ins and adherence are key to outcomes

Conditions That Require Extra Review

Having one of these conditions doesn't automatically disqualify you — but it means your provider will take additional care during review.

History of pancreatitis

Not an automatic disqualifier — provider evaluates individually

Gallbladder disease or history

GLP-1s can rarely affect gallbladder function; disclosed and reviewed

Type 2 Diabetes with insulin use

Possible — but requires careful coordination to avoid hypoglycemia

Kidney or liver disease

Dosing may need adjustment; provider determines appropriateness

Severe GI disorders

Gastroparesis or similar conditions need careful evaluation

Mental health history

EdenRx includes mental health screening in the intake process

History of eating disorders

Disclosed and reviewed; not necessarily a disqualifier

Cancer history (peptides)

Requires provider review — especially for growth hormone peptides

Absolute Contraindications

Personal or family history of Medullary Thyroid Carcinoma (MTC)

Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia Type 2 (MEN 2)

Applies to: GLP-1s

Currently pregnant or breastfeeding

Known allergy/hypersensitivity to semaglutide or tirzepatide

Applies to: GLP-1s

Hormone-sensitive cancers (active)

Applies to: GH peptides (Sermorelin, CJC-1295)

Active cancer without oncologist clearance

Applies to: Peptides & vitamins

Severe gastroparesis

Applies to: GLP-1s

Drug Interactions to Know About

Always disclose ALL current medications during your intake. Here are the most common considerations:

Insulin / Sulfonylureas

Risk of hypoglycemia when combined with GLP-1. Provider coordinates dosing carefully.

Oral medications with narrow absorption windows

GLP-1s slow gastric emptying — may delay absorption of some oral medications. Disclose all medications.

Blood thinners (Warfarin, etc.)

No direct interaction with GLP-1s, but relevant for peptide injection protocols.

Thyroid medications

Thyroid history and medications should always be disclosed. Provider reviews for compatibility.
